Earth is just one tiny world orbiting one ordinary star, hidden within the Milky Way—a galaxy filled with billions of stars. The observable universe may contain an almost unimaginable number of stars—possibly around 1 septillion. ✨

That’s 1 followed by 24 zeros—a number so enormous that even imagining it is difficult.

Astronomers arrive at estimates like this by combining the estimated number of galaxies with the approximate number of stars each galaxy contains. But galaxies come in wildly different sizes: some hold millions of stars, while giant galaxies may contain hundreds of billions or even trillions.

So one septillion isn’t an exact cosmic count. It’s a rough estimate based on observations, models, galaxy populations, and the limits of our telescopes.

And the most fascinating part? As instruments like Hubble, Gaia, and James Webb reveal more of the universe, even our best estimates can change.

A number with 24 zeros… and we still might be underestimating the cosmos.

Mars may have once looked nothing like the cold, dusty planet we see today.

Around 4.3 billion years ago, ancient Mars may have contained enough water to cover its entire surface under roughly 140 meters (450 feet) of water if spread evenly. Much of it may have gathered in northern plains, forming vast lakes, rivers, and perhaps even a primordial ocean.

Today, Mars is frozen and dry, but its ancient valleys, minerals, sediments, and buried ice still preserve clues of a much wetter past. Over billions of years, water was lost to space or trapped beneath the surface.

The haunting question remains: Could ancient Mars once have been a world where life had a chance to begin?

COULD HUMANS EVER ESCAPE THE SOLAR SYSTEM?

Leaving Earth is only the beginning. Leaving the Solar System is an entirely different challenge.

Our planetary neighborhood is so enormous that even spacecraft traveling at incredible speeds need years just to reach the outer regions. And beyond the planets lies the vast, distant Oort Cloud, which may extend trillions of miles from the Sun.

The most mind-blowing part? Even if humanity built a spacecraft capable of traveling between stars, reaching another solar system could still take decades, centuries, or longer with today’s technology.

But perhaps one day, advanced propulsion, generation ships, or technologies we haven’t even invented yet could change everything.

What If Time Began With the Big Bang?

The Big Bang may have created more than just the universe—it may have created time itself.

According to the standard cosmological model, space and time emerged together about 13.8 billion years ago. If that’s true, asking “What happened before the Big Bang?” might be like asking, “What is south of the South Pole?” The question may simply stop making sense.

Einstein’s theory of relativity connects space and time into one fabric: spacetime. If spacetime had a beginning, then time itself may have started at that moment.

But the mystery isn’t solved. Some theories suggest our universe could have emerged from a cosmic bounce, an earlier phase of reality, or even a previous universe.

So perhaps the greatest mystery isn’t what came before the Big Bang…

Something strange may be happening at the very edge of our Solar System—and we still don’t know what is causing it. 🌌

Far beyond Neptune, a group of extremely distant icy worlds follows unusual, strangely aligned orbits. Their movements have raised a fascinating possibility: could an unseen planet be quietly pulling on them with its gravity?

Scientists call this hypothetical world Planet Nine. If it exists, it could be several times more massive than Earth and travel so far from the Sun that one complete orbit might take thousands of years. At that incredible distance, sunlight would be almost nonexistent, making the planet extremely faint and incredibly difficult to spot.

But there’s a catch: Planet Nine has never been directly observed. The unusual orbits could be evidence of a hidden planet—or they might be explained by observational biases and other gravitational effects.

And that’s what makes the mystery so exciting. We’ve discovered planets orbiting stars hundreds of light-years away, yet our own cosmic neighborhood may still have a giant world hiding in the darkness.
