4 CYBERDECK Features That Are Actually Worth Adding It’s incredibly easy to turn a cyberdeck into a collection of random components that look cool but don’t actually make the computer more useful. The best features should support whatever you originally designed the cyberdeck to do. A good portable power system makes the entire build genuinely mobile. Physical controls can give you quick access to commonly used functions. Useful connectivity like Ethernet, USB and GPIO makes the system much more versatile. And a properly designed cooling system can keep everything reliable when you pack the hardware into a small enclosure. You can always add sensors, radios, extra displays and other modules later, but every additional component introduces another power requirement, cable and potential compatibility problem. Build around a purpose first. Then add features that actually make the cyberdeck better at that purpose.

I 3D printed a portable homelab and turned it into an offline internet. Maps, Wikipedia, local AI, media and other self-hosted services all run locally, even with no internet connection. It also creates its own Wi-Fi network, so you can connect from your phone, tablet or laptop and access everything in the box. The full Project Nomad build is on my YouTube channel, and I’ve released the print files if you want to build your own.

I made a live streaming aquarium light using pi zero 2w and pi camera module 3 NoIR

These are Opae Ula shrimps and they are less than 10mm in size, the details you can see with the camera 3 is impressive.

The zero 2w seems to have no problem encoding 1080p stream to YouTube, while running a web control panel for LED and camera focus.

Pi Zero “Film Simulation” Camera

A while ago I posted here about a Raspberry Pi 5 powered camera I built with the IMX477 sensor. I managed to port it over the the Pi Zero with a redesigned body and integrated battery! Code has been optimized to run better on the Pi Zero considering the Zero 2 prices have skyrocketed.
