This week’s build was a tough one. I picked up two of these incredible Made84 Pro keyboards in the “element” series, which I acquired the “fire” and “water” variants. They both came with matching wrist rests. 😱
Various people I spoke with told me to “steer clear” of and I’m the type of person who likes to give the other party the benefit of a new working relationship, so I went ahead and picked up a set of their “royal blue” glossy keycaps to go with this board. When my set arrived, it had the wrong 7 and 8 keys (duplicates of these 7/8 keys from a number pad), so they sent me new ones, along with a set of burgundy keycaps with a glossy finish.
Now, I started to put the burgundy caps on the Made84 Pro fire variant, but after the second keycap - the F1 key - the TTC magnetic switch under the cap literally exploded. I lost four switches on that board - which isn’t Melgeek’s fault. (I have since ordered replacement switches.)
Apparently, Awekeys comes with a keycap puller that also hides a stem adjustment tool. I began to just go ahead and build the “water” variant with the Royal blue keycaps. Thankfully, I found the stem adjustment tool (I was about to give that exact keycap puller to a client), so after adjusting SEVENTY SEVEN of the 84 keycaps for this board, the build was complete.
Look, if you’ve got the time - along with the mental, physical and emotional strength - to adjust most every single stem on your keycaps, by all means… Awekeys feel and sound incredible. For beginners, I’d suggest they steer clear of them. It’s just a lot of work to place them on your keyboard.
I have to reiterate that for the price point and ease of install, is my favorite premium keycap on the market. From their customer service to sound/feel of the thock in the caps, it’s a real enjoyable experience whether you’re gaming or working.
