One of the most common scams targeting seniors: a caller says they're from the IRS, Social Security Administration, or Medicare. They say you owe money — or your benefits will be cut — unless you pay RIGHT NOW with gift cards or wire transfer. REMEMBER: Government agencies never call you demanding immediate payment. They never ask for gift cards. They always send written notices first. If you get this call: HANG UP. Report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. This is called Phishing. Phishing is when scammers send emails or texts pretending to be your bank, Medicare, or even your grandchild — trying to steal your personal info. Red flags to watch for: ① An email says "Your account will be closed!" ② There's a link asking you to "verify" your password ③ The sender email looks odd (like "[email protected]"). RULE: Never click links in emails. Go directly to the website by typing the address yourself. Save this — it could protect someone you love. 💙
