The name Cappuccino was inspired by Capuchin Friars 🙏🏻☕️

In 18th-Century Vienna, food historians found the first usage of the word Capuchin to refer to a coffee drink that was made by adding whipped cream to coffee which created a light brown color. At the time the shade of brown reminded the locals of the robes that were worn by the Capuchin friars who were preaching in their city and the name stuck! So there you have it, without those friars who knows what the name of the Cappuccino would have been called today :P

The famous Hario V60 Dripper gets it’s name from the it’s V shape and it’s 60 degree angle 📐

It’s fascinating to know that this popular dripper is relatively young in the History of Coffee.

Launched in 2004, the Hario V60 saw its rise in popularity through its ability to give you more control when you pour water to brew your coffee. What made the dripper unique were its spiral shaped ribs that allowed the filter paper to float on the dripper. This spiral design allowed air to flow through between the filter paper and the dripper and ultimately increased efficiency in coffee extraction!

Different roasts need different water temps 🌡️☕️

When coffee is roasted, it’s bean structure changes the longer it remains in the roaster.

Lighter roasts are more dense and less soluble, so you need to use hotter water to extract the coffee and bring out its complexities and flavors!

Darker roasts on the other hand are more hollow in structure and dissolve easier, so you need to be more gentle with it. If the water is too hot, you end up over extracting the coffee and bring out all that bitter taste you don’t want! Keep it cooler and brew it nice and easy 👍🏻

Coffee didn’t taste good today? Too bitter? 😧

When a coffee is brewed right, the combination of sweetness, acidity, and bitterness balances out to give you a very enjoyable cup. But if the brew wasn’t made well today, try adding in some salt! The sodium in salt overrides the bitterness and enhances all the other sensations of taste. Try it out and see if it might save your morning brew!

Ah yes the great debate about your daily caffeine fix!

Despite what you think, light and dark roasted coffee have pretty much the same amount of caffeine! Where things start to vary is just how you make your cup of coffee during the day. During the roasting process, coffee tends to lose weight and puff up the darker the roast gets.

With that idea in mind, if you make your coffee based on weight, you’ll need to use more dark roasted coffee beans to get the cup of Joe you want. Thus more caffeine in dark roast!

On the other hand if you make your coffee based on scoops, light roast coffee will fit more beans per scoop because they are smaller. Thus, more caffeine in light roast!
