1. Understand the Difference:
It is important to first of all understand the differences between UX design and UI design, and to know which exactly you want to get into.
2. Learn the Tools:
To begin designing, you need to learn a design tool.
Options are Figma, Adobe XD and Sketch, but my personal recommendation and the industry standard is Figma. Learn this and be good at it.
3. Study Design Principles and Guidelines:
To begin learning proper design, you need to learn the principles and laws of design such as Typography, Grid and Layout, Alignment, Colour, etc. Study Human Interface Guidelines by Apple and Material Design Guidelines by Google to complement.
4. Get Familiar with Design Trends and Styles:
It is important to know the design trends and styles so as to stay current.
5. Build Your Portfolio:
Your portfolio is actually like a business card and it's what employers or clients look at when you're trying to get a job or projects. Build a strong one.
6. Practice! Practice! Practice!:
Practice everyday. Get into the habit of doing daily challenges or tracing or copying existing designs and you'll get better.
Save for later!
