Day one on an occupied building is nothing like day one on a construction site.

Nobody stops working because we showed up. The elevators still run, tenants still badge in, and the building still has to open at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

How that changes the first day:

• Walk every cable route first — our paths are people's paths
• Verify the head-end room against the drawings
• Know what is live before anything gets cut
• Agree the work window in writing, before day two
• Stage so the space looks untouched at end of shift

The install is the straightforward part. Working clean inside a building that never closes is what separates contractors.

Day one done.

A mass notification system nobody can understand is not a safety system.

NFPA 72 Chapter 24 does not ask how loud the speakers are. It asks whether people can understand the words — verified in the finished space, not modeled on a drawing.

What actually determines that:

• Speaker density set by ceiling height and reverberation
• Tap settings tuned per zone at commissioning
• Hard surfaces designed around, not against
• Directional horns for exterior, not indoor speakers aimed out
• Zones that match how the building really evacuates

IP endpoints on PoE+ changed the math. One system runs daily paging and bell schedules, and becomes the emergency system when it has to.

Most failures we get called to fix started at design.

Some installs carry more weight than others.

Our crew spent a day inside a facility that supports people who serve this country. We are not saying where, and we are not showing faces. That discretion is part of the job.

How the work gets done in a place like that:

• Ceiling access opened and closed within the same shift
• Cable routed above an occupied floor without stopping anyone's day
• Every device location walked and confirmed before anything got cut
• Space staged and cleaned before the doors opened the next morning

Nobody on that crew needed reminding where they were. You could see it in how carefully they worked.

To everyone serving, and to the veterans on job sites across this country — thank you.

A corporate lobby asks whether you belong in the building. A data hall asks whether you belong at that cabinet, right now — and whether you can prove it six months from now.

That's the whole difference.

What it actually takes:

• Layered access: perimeter, portal, data hall, cabinet
• Anti-tailgating and anti-passback at the portal
• Credential + PIN + biometric at the hall
• Every access event paired with camera coverage
• Retention set by the audit, not by the default

Facial biometrics has moved from upgrade to basis-of-design. Operators judge it on integration speed, accuracy, and whether it slows a 2 a.m. badge-in.

EliGico designs integrated security for critical environments.

Not every CCTV camera lens is made for the same job.

Choosing the wrong lens can give you either too much coverage with less detail or great detail over a very narrow area.

Here’s a simple guide:

🔹 2.8mm – Wide coverage for receptions, compounds & open areas

🔹 3.6mm – Medium coverage for rooms & offices

🔹 6.0mm – Narrower focus for cash points, entrances & garages

🔹 12.0mm – Long-range viewing for gates, distant objects & license plates

The right lens depends on what you want to see and how far away it is.

Before buying a CCTV camera, don’t just ask “How many megapixels?” Ask: “What lens do I need?”

Save this guide and share it with someone planning a CCTV installation. 📌
