Commissioners discuss flash flood damage to roads and low-water crossings, quick care

OSAGE COUNTY — Commissioners spent a significant amount of time during their June 2 and 4 meetings discussing flash flood damage to the county roads and low-water crossings, how best to repair the damage, and whether federal funds would be available to assist with the cost.

Eastern District Commissioner Jeff Peters said one area near Chamois received around seven inches of rain in a matter of a few hours, between the two heavy storms, adding that the cost to repair the damage will easily exceed $1,000,000.

LINN — A special election held Tuesday for voters who were not provided ballots containing the Linn mayoral race in April did not change the outcome of the election, with too few additional votes cast to overcome the original 26-vote margin.

Troesser wins Linn mayoral race after special election

LINN — A special election held Tuesday for voters who were not provided ballots containing the Linn mayoral race in April did not change the outcome of the election, with too few additional votes cast to overcome the original 26-vote margin.
Two voters participated in the special election, with Dustin Flamm receiving both votes.
After the special election votes were added to the April totals, Troesser finished with 127 votes to Flamm’s 103, securing his election as mayor. The outcome was certified at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.
The special election was ordered after the Osage County Clerk’s Office determined that fewer than 40 eligible Linn voters had received ballots that did not include the mayoral contest during the April 7 municipal election.
The original election was certified with Troesser defeating Flamm by a 127-101 margin.
According to Interim Osage County Clerk Brooke Dudenhoeffer, the issue stemmed from administrative errors tied to annexation records that had not been fully entered into the voter system before the election. As a result, some residents whose addresses had been annexed into the city did not receive city ballots containing the mayoral race.
After identifying the error, the clerk’s office petitioned the court for a special election under Missouri statute 115.600. An Osage County judge granted the request, limiting the election to the affected voters whose ballots did not include the mayoral contest.
Absentee voting for the special election began June 1, with election day voting held June 9 at the Osage County Annex building.
The special election concludes weeks of questions surrounding annexation records, ballot assignments, and voter eligibility that emerged following the April election.

Crede, Bexten home runs power Fatima past Centralia in Class 3 sectional win

Fatima wasted no time in scoring as Jackson Crede (2-2) hit a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall in the top of the first to give the Comets a 1-0 lead against Centralia in last Tuesday’s 2-0 Class 3 sectional win.

In the fifth, Tyler “Turtle” Bexten (1-3) added the team’s second HR, this time to center field, and Fatima held a 2-0 lead for the eventual win by that score.
