Freeburg approves wastewater construction bid for $2.3 million, begins process to become Purple Heart Village

FREEBURG — Freeburg trustees approved a bid from McClanahan Construction Company, Inc. for $2,302,001 for the new wastewater project at their Aug. 7 meeting. McClanahan Construction Company’s bid includes the base bid for construction ($2,008,000), sludge removal in lagoon cell #1 ($86,275), sludge removal in lagoon cell #2 ($32,726), awning over UV concrete pad and control panel enclosure ($25,000), excavation, backfill, and aggregate base for manual bar screen headworks structure ($30,000), cast-in-place concrete pad for bar screen headworks structure ($25,000), excavation, backfill, and aggregate base for concrete pad for headworks dumpster ($2,500), cast-in-place concrete pad for head works dumpster ($2,500), and precast concrete process manholes for headworks ($10,000).

Peters demands east side road repairs

OSAGE COUNTY — Eastern District Commissioner Jeff Peters demanded during the Aug. 18 Osage County Commission meeting that more resources be dedicated to repairing roads on the east side of the county, where he said regular maintenance has come to a halt as crews continue cleaning up storm damage.

Linn R-2 celebrates new addition, years of campus improvements

LINN — More than half a century after Linn R-2 began putting students into makeshift classrooms in the basement of the field house, the district celebrated a very different solution on Thursday.

Students, staff, school officials, and community members gathered on Thursday for a ribbon-cutting marking the completion of the district’s new addition and a series of campus improvements — projects Superintendent Bob James said represent years of planning, construction, and community investment.

Five centuries of Iven family history come together at Loose Creek

LOOSE CREEK — Five hundred years can make history seem distant, but for members of the Iven family who gathered on Aug. 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Loose Creek, the distance between 1526 and 2026 could be measured in names, photographs, family stories, and generations.

At the center of a new memorial to Peter Iven and Anna Gertrude Muenks Iven is the Iven coat of arms, marking exactly 500 years since Holy Roman Emperor Charles V bestowed the arms upon an earlier Peter Iven on Aug. 14, 1526.
