Thrilled to be a media sponsor for HandyCon 2 Online where we'll help show off the project to decentralize the internet!
How you ask?
Well, the main internet domains, like .com, .net, .org, etc... are all saved in one file managed by a non-profit group called ICAAN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Its called the "root zone file".
Some 11 servers around the world store this file, which makes the internet pretty vulnerable if you ask us. The project seeks to store this file on a instead, and distribute it among a large network of computers.
This does two things:
1. Creates redundancy: this means if one computer fails, or 11 computers fail, the root zone file is still up and running.
2. Removes centralized control: ICAAN is a trustworthy non-profit, but something as important as the internet should be governed in a decentralized way.
