You Already Have Marketing Content

"I don't know what to post."

Look around your jobsite. It's right there.

Take a picture when you:

πŸ”¨ Tear something apart
πŸ”¨ Find hidden damage
πŸ”¨ Fix a problem
πŸ”¨ Finish a project
πŸ”¨ Install something the right way
πŸ”¨ Fix somebody else's bad work

Then explain what you're doing, in plain English, like you're telling the homeowner standing next to you.

That's the kind of content that builds trust β€” because people can see you actually know what you're doing.

You don't need to become an influencer. Just document the work you're already doing.

Quit Trying to Look Like a Huge Company

Some small contractors try hard to look like a big corporation. Stock photos, corporate-sounding name, no faces anywhere on the site.

Don't. Being small is one of your biggest advantages, not something to hide.

Homeowners want to know who owns the company, who's showing up at their house, and who they can call if something goes wrong.

Use your website and social media to show the people behind the business β€” your story, your experience, your work, what you actually care about.

People hire people. Not logos.

Reviews Are Salespeople

A review you got two years ago is still out there working for you today.

Think about that. A homeowner you haven't thought about since the job wrapped could be the reason someone hires you this week.

That's why you need a simple system for asking β€” not just hoping you remember.

Ask when the customer's happiest:

βœ… When the project's finished
βœ… When they compliment the work
βœ… When you solve a problem for them
βœ… When they tell you they'll recommend you

You did the work to earn that review. Don't be shy about asking for it.

Marketing Should Make the Phone Ring

You don't want "marketing." You want the damn phone to ring.

I've been around contractors a long time, and that's the truth almost every one of them would say if you got them being honest.

You want homeowners looking for exactly what you do, finding you, and calling.

That's why I think contractor marketing should stay simple:

Be easy to find.
Look trustworthy.
Explain what you do.
Make it easy to contact you.
Follow up with the lead.

Everything else is secondary. If your marketing is complicated and it's not making your phone ring, something's broken β€” doesn't matter how good it looks.

You Don't Need to Post Every Day

"I don't have time to post on Facebook every day."

I hear this constantly. Good news β€” you don't have to.

I'd rather see a contractor post 2 or 3 useful things a week than dump junk online daily just to feed the algorithm.

Show people:

πŸ”¨ Projects you're working on
🏠 Before-and-afters
πŸ’‘ Homeowner tips
πŸ‘· Your crew
⭐ Customer reviews
πŸ“ Jobs in the towns you serve

You're already creating this content every day on the jobsite. You just have to remember to pull your phone out and snap a picture before you clean up.

Homeowners Are Checking You Out

By the time a homeowner picks up the phone to call you, they've already made up their mind about you. You just don't know it yet.

They checked your website. Your Google reviews. Your page. Your project photos. And they probably looked at two or three of your competitors while they were at it.

Your online presence is selling your company before you ever say hello.

So ask yourself the only question that matters:

If I saw my own company online for the first time as a stranger β€” would I trust it enough to call?

Stop Ignoring Google

You spent thousands on a website and haven't touched your Google Business Profile in a year. That's backwards.

When a homeowner searches "roofer near me" or "plumber near me," Google Maps is usually the first thing they see β€” before your website even shows up.

Make sure your profile has:
βœ… Current photos
βœ… Correct services
βœ… Correct service area
βœ… Recent reviews
βœ… Regular updates

That little map listing might be doing more work for your business than your website. And Google gives it to you for free.

Your Website Has One Job

Your website doesn't need to win a design award. Nobody's hiring you because your site has a fancy animation.

It needs to do one thing: make it easy for a homeowner to call you.

If someone lands on your site and has to hunt for your phone number, guess what areas you cover, or figure out if you even do the kind of work they need β€” you just lost a lead. They won't dig. They'll hit the back button and call the next guy.

Keep it simple:
βœ… Clear phone number
βœ… Services you actually provide
βœ… Areas you serve
βœ… Photos of your real work
βœ… Reviews
βœ… An easy way to request an estimate

Think of your website as your best salesman β€” except it never takes a day off, never misses a call, and works nights and weekends.

Labor Day means a little more when you’ve spent your life around people who build things for a living.

Roofers, remodelers, plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, painters, crews, suppliers β€” the people who get up early, work in the heat, solve problems, and keep homes and businesses running.

Today is a good day to recognize the people behind the work.

To all the contractors, tradesmen, crews, and small business owners out there β€” enjoy the day. You’ve earned it.
