“Why do I need to protect both ends of a cable or wire run?”

💡 You don’t “need” to BUT it is a best practice. Overvoltage surge energy in any metallic conductor will travel in both directions, trying to find the least resistive path to ground. And that’s usually right through your equipment.

🚨 It’s not a matter of “if” you need surge protection for your fire alarm system – you do. The question we often get is, “what type is best?”

We did a little experiment with generative AI and surge protection searches, and here’s what we found out:

Some of the answers were misleading or missing important information and others were just incorrect.

Now, if you work in the field every day, you might catch these. Our biggest concern is that most people do not, and it’s easy to take these answers at face value or be confused by them—especially on a topic like surge protection, which is already often misunderstood.

Currently, generative AI simply cannot replace the field experts, and when it comes to electrical systems and appliances, it’s best to go to the source.
