Missed grabbing a Souvenir Program in years past? We’ve got a few extras from previous seasons.

These were put together in partnership with the LEADERFund and they showcase Lapeer High School Football (earlier years) along with the rest of the fall sports teams (later years). Rosters, photos, the whole season in one keepsake.

We’ve got a handful left from 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. So if your player graduated a while back, or you just want to fill in a gap on the shelf, this is your chance.

Stop in and see us. Quantities are small, so once a year is gone, it’s gone.

Print shop trivia: designers call the space between lines of text “leading,” and most have no idea why. It’s because printers used to slide actual strips of lead between the rows of type to space them out.

The lead is long gone. The name never left. Every document on your computer still carries a little metal in its vocabulary.

Downtown Lapeer turns into Stars Hollow this weekend.

Lapeer Hollow Harvest is back for a second year, Friday from 5 to 9 and Saturday from 10 to 8. Nearly two dozen downtown businesses are trading their everyday signs for Stars Hollow storefronts, there’s a vendor market by the community pavilion, and a $3 souvenir map will point you to who’s doing what.

Admission is free, and you can wander it at your own pace.

We spend our days putting local business names on paper, so there’s something great about watching a whole downtown borrow somebody else’s for a weekend. Every one of those storefronts belongs to a neighbor who decided it was worth the trouble.

Come walk around. Bring coffee money.

Here’s a mystery with a printing problem at the center of it.

In January 2012, a cryptic puzzle appeared on an anonymous message board, signed only with the number 3301. It was hard. Hidden data inside images, layered ciphers, a recorded phone message, the works. Then it did something nobody expected: it stepped off the screen. The puzzle handed solvers a set of coordinates and told them to find its symbol at the location nearest them.

People went. In more than a dozen places on several continents, they found the same thing taped to a lamppost: a plain paper poster with a cicada logo and a QR code.

Fourteen years later, nobody knows who made it. The last round of the puzzle still hasn’t been cracked.

The part that gets us is the boring part. Whoever was behind this had encryption skills most people can’t follow. And they still needed somebody to print a stack of sheets, put them in a bag, and go out at night with a roll of tape. The world’s most sophisticated puzzle came down to paper on a pole.

Nothing beats a printed sheet when you need someone to actually find it.

Nightmare on Nepessing is this Saturday in downtown Lapeer!

The Lapeer Optimist Club puts this on every October: a 21-and-over costume party right on Nepessing Street, with more than $4,500 in prize money for the best solo, couple, and group costumes. People around here take that seriously. We've watched folks spend a month building something out of cardboard and hot glue just to walk down the middle of a street they drive on every other day of the year.

The best part is what happens after the tent comes down. Proceeds go to Lapeer-area youth programs, so a good night downtown turns into something that sticks around for local kids.

Tickets are available through the Lapeer Optimist Club. Go build something ridiculous, and we'll see you Saturday.

Print shop trivia: both "cliché" and "stereotype" started life in print shops. A stereotype was a solid metal plate cast to reprint the same page over and over, and cliché was the French printers' word for that same plate, supposedly named for the sound it made when cast.

A phrase that got printed to death became a cliché. An image repeated without thinking became a stereotype. Every time you use either word, you're speaking printer.

Ducks in the creek this Saturday. The Kiwanis Club of Lapeer's 8th Annual Rubber Duck Dash runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cramton Park, with the race itself kicking off at 2:30 p.m. when the ducks go into Farmers Creek, assisted by the Lapeer County Young Marines.

It's free to attend, so bring the kids and come hang out even if you don't have a duck in the water.

We're proud to be a sponsor again this year. Proceeds go right back into Lapeer County, which makes this one of our favorite Saturdays on the calendar. Hope to see you down there.
