I wanted to share the latest scam I was just sent with everyone. Always check the validity of anyone asking you for payment, or any personal information if you were not expecting it.

I just got this text message claiming I have outstanding traffic tickets.

Reasons I know this a scam:

1. I have not gotten any traffic tickets in recent memory.
2. If I had legitimate tickets that were outstanding to the point where I have be notified I would get an official letter in the mail.
3. Traffic violations are not paid to the general Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. They are paid to the local municipality where the ticket was issued.

If you ever get anything like this and did not expect it but don't know for sure it is a scam that you can ignore you can always call the correct authority to verify it. In this case your best bet would be to call the PA DOT by finding their official contact info on their website. DO NOT EVER USE THE LINK in a message you get like this.

I believe you may be able to call the NON emergency number for your local police precinct to check if there are any outstanding traffic violations on your record.

Free software is great but be careful and make sure you are aware why it is free. Usually the software will be supported by ads and even those will have malware in them a lot of the times.

The FBI has warned about free file converters that are up to no good and can lead to ransomware and identity theft.

Make sure your apple devices are up to date. This is why updates are so important to do no matter what device you have. This just happens to be Apple pushing out a vulnerability fix.

Apple has released an out-of-band security update for a vulnerability which it says may have been exploited in an "extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”

This is targeted towards IPhone users but the way to protect yourself is universal. Be cautious when opening links form someone you don’t expect and if you are ever unsure about a message (email, text, or voicemail) from a company it is always best to call the actual customer service number and ask about the message. Do not use the phone number provided in the suspicious message.

Anyone with a Facebook business page, please be aware of this scam as I’ve seen similar ones more recently. If there is ever a concern a message this is legitimate you should contact Meta support separately not through the scam message.
