🌟 Celebrating Black excellence! 🌟 Join us in spotlighting the incredible talents, stories, and contributions of our amazing Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) Black employees this Black History Month. Get ready to be inspired!

Meet Mike Jones, an electrical engineering graduate from Morgan State University with extensive experience in engineering, particularly in the United States Department of Defense (DOD) community. Mike's passion lies in collaborative problem-solving across disciplines to address complex global challenges. Mike noted, "Working together across multiple disciplines to find solutions for complex problems was a dream come true."

Here's Mike's take:

1. What drew you to SSAI, and how does the company's mission resonate with you personally?

Coming from an electrical engineering background, I transitioned into systems engineering, focusing on software and network engineering in the DoD contracting space. Joining SSAI was a refreshing opportunity to work on projects with a positive impact on humanity, particularly in space exploration alongside NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's diverse engineering disciplines. It was a dream job where I found fulfillment in contributing to environmental and human advancements in space travel.

2. What factors have contributed to your decision to work at SSAI, and how does the company support your professional growth and development?

Being part of a smaller company has provided unique access to owners and managers across projects, fostering mentorship and a growth-oriented environment. This access to senior-level insights has been invaluable for my professional development. SSAI's mentorship culture sets it apart, making it a rare and rewarding opportunity for growth.

3. Can you share a specific project or initiative at SSAI that you're particularly proud of? How has it contributed to your sense of fulfillment and impact within the organization?

Although I'm relatively new, witnessing the PACE launch and engaging with the team involved has been enlightening. Managing the project underscored the meticulous planning and resource management required, culminating in a profoundly impactful end product. This experience has been far more rewarding than previous contractor roles, fueling my eagerness for future projects.

Thanks, Mike, for sharing your journey!

It was a great day for the Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) team as they traveled to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to engage with student members of the CMU National Society of Black Engineers. SSAI's President, Praveen Bahethi and Vice President of Human Resources, Diedre Jones, SPHR, CPSP, ADP-CHRS, BA-HRM (both pictured below with students), presented an overview of SSAI's core values, customers, and cutting-edge capabilities.

The students were very engaged as they enjoyed dinner and listening to Praveen discuss the Landsat mission and the excellent collaboration between science and engineering to make it all happen.

Dee, as she conducted mock interviews, noted, “I was extremely impressed by the brilliant academic and professional achievements of every student who participated in this event. Hearing all their stories energizes us at SSAI to support and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in STEM.”

Next, the SSAI Team looks forward to seeing CMU students again and many others at the National Society of Black Engineers 50th National Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center Authority in Atlanta, Georgia. The career fair will take place on Thursday, March 21st from 10am-4pm ET and on Friday, March 22nd from 10am-3pm ET. Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) participated in the first Maryland Space Business Roundtable luncheon of this year yesterday and it was great to see customers, partners, and colleagues again.

Casey Swails, NASA Deputy Associate Administrator, was the guest speaker and gave a tremendous overview of past, current, and future NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration initiatives. SSAI was proud to hear her suggestion that attendees visit the Earth Information Center at NASA headquarters and experience Earth Science with a multi-dimensional, sensory approach. We are honored to support that, and many other major initiatives mentioned, such as the PACE mission that launched earlier this month.

SSAI CEO, Dr. Shilpa Bahethi, MD, was seated at the head table and had the opportunity for further discussion with Casey and others including Dennis Feerick, MSBR President, Ryan Gerard of GVT, Jason Kalirai of APL, and Mo Khayat of ADNET Systems, shown in various pictures below.

Others attending from SSAI included President Praveen Bahethi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) David McBride, and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Christopher Williamson, also pictured below.

SSAI Group Manager, Lisa Scaffardi, is pictured below with CEO Jamil Husain of Telophase Corporation. We appreciate her work as a Maryland Space Business Roundtable board member to continue building the vital collaboration enabled by the organization.

We have liftoff! The Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, Ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission successfully climbed into orbit early this morning from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. PACE will help us better understand the ocean and atmosphere’s health by observing its precise colors across several spectrums of light in high resolution. This information will tell us where different species of plankton reside in bodies of water, show pollution and air patterns, and more.

Congratulations to NASA, its affiliates, and Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI)’s many employees who were and are involved in this amazing mission and who will see the exciting data PACE sends back to Earth as it begins its primary science mission.

At Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI), we love Caps team captain, Alexander Ovechkin!

As a sponsor of the Washington Capitals, we were cheering the team on last night when they hosted the Canadiens de Montréal for an exciting game at Capital One Arena. Although the final score favored the Canadiens 5-2, we know the Caps will be on top again soon and we will be right there when they are.😊
