Cable Connections, a company traditionally known for installing cable infrastructure and endpoints for businesses, has recently taken on a significant new role in the wake of a major retailer's decision to close multiple locations. Typically tasked with setting up robust IT systems, including cabling for network connectivity and endpoint installations, the company was approached for a different kind of project: the complete removal of all IT equipment from several of the retailer’s shuttered stores. This shift highlights Cable Connections’ versatility and ability to adapt to the evolving needs of its clients, as the retail industry grapples with widespread closures and the need for efficient asset recovery. The project required meticulous planning to dismantle complex systems while ensuring compliance with environmental and data security regulations, showcasing the company’s expertise beyond its usual scope.
The scope of the removal project was extensive, involving the decommissioning of self-checkout systems, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, wireless access points, firewalls, network switches, CCTV systems, and audio equipment. Cable Connections’ team navigated the challenge of safely extracting these technologies, many of which were deeply integrated into the stores’ operations, while coordinating with the retailer to catalog and dispose of equipment responsibly. This included securely packing and shipping of everal large boxes of equipment to their equipment depot The successful ex*****on of this project has positioned Cable Connections as a trusted partner for both installation and deinstallation services, opening new opportunities in an industry increasingly focused on managing the lifecycle of IT assets during times of transition.
