It’s hiding in your “Advanced Settings,” and it’s costing you free organic reach every time you ignore it. 📉
I’m talking about Alt Text.
Most realtors think Instagram is just visual, but it’s actually a powerful Search Engine (just like Google). If you aren’t telling the algorithm exactly what is in your video or photo, it has to guess—and often, it guesses wrong.
Here is how to use Alt Text to get your listings in front of people actively searching for them:
1️⃣ Where to find it: Before you hit “Share” on your next post or Reel, scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced Settings. Scroll down to Accessibility and tap Write Alt Text.
2️⃣ What to write: Don’t keyword stuff. Describe the image clearly, but weave in your local SEO terms.
❌ Bad: House, real estate, sold, realtor.
✅ Good: Modern farmhouse kitchen in [City Name] featuring white quartz countertops, gold fixtures, and an open concept living area.
3️⃣ Why it matters: This helps the algorithm categorize your content. When a buyer searches “Modern Farmhouse [City Name]” in the Explore bar, your content now has a much higher chance of showing up.
4️⃣ The Strategy: Go back to your top 3 performing posts from this month, edit them, and add Alt Text specifically targeting your local neighborhood keywords.
Stop making the algorithm guess. Tell it exactly who needs to see your content.
📌 Save this post to your “Marketing” folder so you remember to do this on your next listing upload.
