Amazon Web Services confirmed that yesterday’s major outage is resolved. The issue, centered in the US-EAST-1 (Virginia) region, disrupted thousands of websites and apps worldwide — including major platforms and even Amazon’s own services.

A Story About Trust, Even After A Goodbye

About a year ago, one of our valued clients transitioned to a new IT provider after being acquired by a larger company. We understood—it was part of the process. While we were sad to part ways, we at Taktical Tek always support what’s best for our clients, even if that means stepping back.

Then this morning, something unexpected happened.

We received a phishing email that appeared to come directly from their CFO.

It had all the signs of a Business Email Compromise (BEC) attempt—subtle, targeted, and dangerous. Our team immediately took action. We reached out to the CFO to alert him that his account appeared to be compromised.

While we were at it, we ran a scan on their company domain out of an abundance of caution.

What we found were multiple issues with their DMARC configuration—vulnerabilities that could make spoofing and impersonation even easier for attackers.

His response stuck with us:

“I miss you guys. Things were a lot tighter when we worked together.”

That hit home. Because for us, it's never just about support tickets or service contracts.
