I heard a ghost the other day.

It didn’t speak to me, but apparently it wanted to play me a song. Unfortunately, the spook shied away after one note.

As I was lying in bed reading, a string on my guitar strummed. Specifically the 5th string, A.

Not gonna lie, I was a little freaked out. I’m not one to believe in physical spook encounters, but there was a sliver of quiver under my skin.

I immediately texted my friend who is into all the specter stuff, and she told me to tell them that they need to leave and they are not welcome.

Really? But maybe all this phantom wanted to do was play me a lullaby before bed. Damn. So I said it anyway. Plus, I had no sage around to burn, so words were all I had.

Then I felt guilty. So instead I chose to befriend it and called him Addicus. A for Addy.

As I was sitting around paranoid and waiting for the next note, I heard a different noise.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap tap.

I look over toward my guitar that’s near the lamp and a green leaf hopper was on the wall.

Ahhhhh…it was an insect! Not a ghastly ghost.

Or… was it?

Strangely, I was listening to a lot of Duncan Sheik that day since his recent passing.
So, to pay homage to the late musical talent that left us, I renamed the ghost. Or the prankster bug for the non-believers… to Duncan Shriek. Hope he’d dig that.
