📄 Florida Notary Tip: A power of attorney ends when the person who granted it dies.

A power of attorney allows an agent to act on someone’s behalf while that person is living. Once the principal passes away, the agent’s authority under the POA immediately stops, even if the document was durable.

At that point:

✅ The former agent can no longer sign or conduct business under the POA
✅ A notary cannot notarize a signature made using the expired authority
✅ Estate matters must be handled by the court-appointed personal representative
✅ Being named as an agent does not automatically make someone the executor

This is why families should understand the difference between a power of attorney and estate-planning documents before an emergency occurs.

Florida Statute §709.2109 provides that a power of attorney terminates when the principal dies.

Phishing emails are designed to look legitimate so they can trick you into clicking a harmful link, opening an infected attachment, or giving away sensitive information.

Before responding to an email:

✅ Check the sender’s full email address
✅ Hover over links before clicking
✅ Watch for urgent threats or unusual wording
✅ Be cautious with unexpected attachments
✅ Verify the request another way if anything feels off

Remember, a familiar name or company logo does not guarantee the message is real. Email accounts can be impersonated, and display names are easy to fake.

One wrong click can open the door to stolen passwords, compromised accounts, financial loss, and exposed customer information.

When in doubt, stop and verify before you click.
