If a website tells you to press Windows+R and paste in a command to 'verify you're human,' close the tab. That's a scam called ClickFix, and it installs malware the second you hit Enter. No real website ever asks you to run a command. CAPTCHAs just make you click pictures.

ClickFix attacks are delivering BabaDeda, Lorem Ipsum, and Potemkin loaders to deploy stealers, RATs, and ransomware-linked tooling.

Most businesses have heard of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, but many don't know how they're configured.

It's common to see SPF and DKIM in place while DMARC is left in monitoring mode. In that configuration, you can see spoofing attempts, but you're not actively instructing other mail systems to reject them.

Moving to a stricter DMARC policy can help reduce the risk of attackers sending messages that appear to come from your domain.

A good question for your IT provider is:

Many ransomware attacks don't stop at encrypting files. Attackers often target backup systems and backup credentials as part of the attack, making recovery much harder.

That's why it's important to have at least one backup copy that can't be easily reached from your day-to-day administrative accounts.

A few good practices:

• Keep a backup copy isolated from production systems
• Use separate credentials for backup administration
• Monitor and protect backup infrastructure just like any other critical system
• Test restores regularly

The last point is the one most organizations skip.

A successful backup job doesn't guarantee a successful recovery. Until you've tested a restore, you're relying on assumptions.

If it's been a while since you last performed a restore test, this month is a good time to do one.
