Pro Tip of the Month: WiFi Extenders vs. Mesh
What’s a WiFi extender? What’s a Mesh? Why do I even need to know what they are?
If you asked any of these questions to yourself, I suggest you read this. A WiFi extender is a device that pulls the strength of your current WiFi signal and make reach further. A Mesh is a WiFi system that involves 2 or more devices that communicate to each other and send out the strongest network signal possible to your devices. If you’re looking to fix your weak network signal and need to have WiFi all throughout your home, have a mesh.
The only reason you would need an extender is only if your just looking to just bring the signal a little bit closer so it doesn’t spread out too far. The issue with extenders though is that it would require you create a new network and not combine it with the same network already in place. This will cause a lot of problems when connecting to your WiFi. It will kick you out of the one your using and force you to join its already weak signal that your dragging to the other room. With the Mesh WiFi system, the equipment automatically syncs up with your WiFi network and will have less issues to in connecting your devices.
One of the best things about Mesh is that you can connect 2-5 times more devices than the current WiFi router your ISP (Internet Service Provider) gives you. The pricing with extenders range from $15-$150, while the Mesh your looking to spend around $200-$1500. Yes, it does become pretty expensive, but it’s completely worth it if you really want to have WiFi throughout your home.
In conclusion, if you want WiFi all over your home spend your money on a mesh, if you just want to pull it a bit closer and still have connection issues, get an extender.
