💡 AI can make decisions. But it can’t be accountable for them.
A quote from an IBM training manual in 1979 feels even more relevant today:
“A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision.”
Nearly 50 years later, we’re deploying AI agents capable of taking real actions inside our businesses — accessing data, communicating with customers, analyzing employees, making recommendations, and automating workflows.
That makes AI governance and human oversight more important, not less.
Businesses should know:
• What AI tools and agents are operating in their environment
• What data those systems can access
• What decisions they’re allowed to make
• Who is responsible for supervising them
• What happens when an AI system makes a mistake
• How an AI agent can be stopped or overridden
AI Guardian Agents and automated controls can add another layer of protection, but they don’t eliminate human accountability.
AI can have authority to act. Accountability must remain with people.
The goal isn’t to slow down AI adoption. It’s to make sure we’re adopting it responsibly, securely, and with proper governance.
At Vertical IT Solutions, we believe the companies that get the most value from AI won’t simply be the ones that adopt it the fastest — they’ll be the ones that understand how to govern it.
