Soaring Beyond the Gender Barrier

Captain Melaine Valentin stopped by to visit with the Westamerica "crew."

Melaine is one of a few but growing number of female Air Force Fighter Pilots. She is also a talented artist and has become an inspiration to young women everywhere.

Melaine is a friend of Westamerica and we were honored to help her produce her first coloring book celebrating aircraft.

We are now proudly displaying her work in our lobby.

Melaine coined the term “Fly like a Girl” and created a patch to match. The patch is now being worn by many women pilots in all branches of the service.

Our team presented Melaine with a special flag showcasing her inspirational messaging.

We are really proud of our teammate Becky Mintz. Becky ran the Boston Marathon today and finished with a very respectable 3:48.

She has been training hard for the past months and the team has watched and encourage her as she completed her morning and mid-day workouts.

We had a little send-off for her on Thursday.

Did you know our CEO Doug Grant has taken up coffee roasting?

In honor of National Coffee Day (9/29), Doug is giving away some of his fresh-roasted coffee. You can’t buy this in stores.

Fun Factoid: Over 400 million cups of coffee are consumed in the United States EVERY DAY?

That’s a whole lotta java!

We hold coffee in a special place at Westamerica. Our CEO Doug Grant's non-profit efforts have raised over $1MM, a portion of which helps outfit impoverished African coffee growers (as well as care-givers and young students) with sturdy utility bikes. Our company supports those that harvest the beans that make their way into the coffee we enjoy daily.

If you'd like a bag of "Doug's Beans" just comment with your coffee story. Maybe share why you drink it, or how you drink it, or what this “elixir from the gods” means to you. Or maybe just how you plan to celebrate on National Coffee Day. We'll pick the best stories and send out some bags.

Westamerica is proud to announce our affiliation with the Jessie Rees Foundation, NEGU.

Read about Jessie's inspiring story and the creation of "Joy Jars" to bring happiness to other children fighting cancer.

The Jessie Rees Foundation was, and always will be, inspired by one courageous and compassionate 12 year old little girl. Her name, Jessica Joy Rees, better known as “Jessie”.
