Kilo-wat-ter
It is shocking that after 32 years, we at Three Phase Electric are still experiencing new and electrifying situations in our HOA common areas! A couple of weeks ago, during all of the rain, we had four separate emergency calls for underground shorts and each one resulted in standing mud puddles actually BOILING!
In one case, unprofessional repairs where wires had been spliced underground with tape resulted in bare, energized conductors being in contact with wet earth and causing puddles of standing water to be electrified. This is scary stuff – actual, serious, life safety hazards. This repair took two men 10 hours on emergency service rates – an expense that could have been avoided all together by hiring a qualified electrician to properly repair the original short the right way, the first time. On the bright side, we were glad to have been able to fix this “shocking” problem by returning the kilo-wat-ter back to its regular/original puddle form and letting the kilowatts remain with the utility.
