🚀It's that time of year again for October, or as we know it at SpaceBound, Cybersecurity Awareness Month! There's no rest for cybercriminals, so we're introducing new ways to keep yourself and your business safe from vicious cyber-attacks. Here are our top 5 tips for this month👇
🚩1) QR codes - A tactic known as quishing, sometimes these are overriden with hidden malware that can trigger inside your phone once you scan the code. Stickers that you see in public or random popups on your computer should always be double-checked. If something looks suspicious, don't scan it!
🚩2) False verification codes – instead of the usual typing in what letters you see or what shapes go together, it’s yet again another popup scam. Also known as ClickFix - where the page demands you copy and paste a code that’s secretly encrypted with malware - this is a phishing tactic and should immediately be exited out of. Do not follow any directions if the Captcha check isn’t standard.
🔐3) Passkeys – they're everywhere now, and they’re your best backup than a second email or phone number. Passkeys that regard more physical information – a facial scan, a fingerprint – can be much harder to decode than a password or a backup account. We always push multifactor authentication, and this is a more foolproof example.
🔐4) Password strength - you don't necessarily need to overcomplicate your passwords every time you change them to the point of forgetting. But it shouldn't be something that's easily guessable. A mix of uppercase and lowercase, numbers, and special characters adding up to a minimum of 10 characters is sufficient.
👩💻👨💻5) Investing in a cybersecurity team – we've said it before, and we'll say it again. Attacks continue to be relentless institutions and industries; it's due to the fact that these institutions don't have a strong cybersecurity foundation. Now more than ever, it's a must to invest in a team that knows how and when to evade any suspicious activity that might creep into your network system.
