I’ve been listening to a lot of Gang Starr at the studio this week. Was there a better hip-hop duo than Guru and DJ Premier? I remember copping the Daily Operation cassette as a 13-year-old back in 1992 and being floored by Premier’s production and Guru’s smooth, monotone delivery. Easily top 5 all-time hip-hop groups for me. What’s your favorite Gang Starr album?

An homage to the original streetwear brand - I was heavily influenced by this brand in the early 90s, their mix of Hip-Hop and Reggae flavor back then struck a major chord, not to mention their marketing and, of course, that iconic graffiti tag logo, both iterations. This brand cemented my love for graphic design. It’s crazy that this brand has still maintained its status across the world in Hip-Hop, EDM, and high-end street fashion culture, but it’s those very early years that are sentimental to me—the graphic design and marketing team really locked into something that the brand has never been able to replicate, in my opinion. Now up in the shop if you need to cop… ya dig? ✌🏼

I received my collaborator copies of new cassette release No Equivalent and they look fantastic. Shoutout to D5 for entrusting me with designing his first full physical release. If I’m not mistaken tapes are now available so make sure to cop one asap… these will not last long. I’m always taking design commissions… 20 years experience in packaging design, logos, high end gig posters, apparel, and more… you name it and I’ve probably done it. Logo design for veteran Austin, Texas DJ/Producer Steady B’s new LLC, Burton Creative Group. Here’s an excerpt explaining a few new ventures for 2026 from the man himself via his B-Team mailing list:
“First, I’m proud to announce the continued growth and expansion of Burton Creative Group LLC. What started as a vision centered around music, creativity, community, and culture is evolving into something much bigger. Burton Creative Group will continue building opportunities through DJ performances, creative services, production, events, and independent artistic projects moving forward.
Alongside this next chapter, I’m also excited to announce the launch and development of The B Team Records.
The B Team Records will serve as an independent platform focused on original music, underground culture, creative collaborations, and forward-thinking releases. The goal is to create a home for authentic sounds, creative freedom, and projects that may not always fit traditional industry expectations.
In addition to these announcements, I’m currently working on a brand new EP project that is planned for release in the Summer or early Fall of 2026.
This upcoming release will continue exploring the blend of electronic music, deep grooves, underground influences, and experimental sounds that many of you have supported throughout the years. More details, previews, and release information will be shared as development continues.”
