Under the GLB Act, every financial institution must provide a clear, easy-to-understand Privacy Notice. Here’s what you need to include:

• What data you collect: Be specific and transparent
• How you use and protect it: Explain your safeguards
• Who you share it with: List affiliates, service providers
• How customers can opt out: Make the process simple

FTC Safeguards: Employee Training That Actually Works

Building a real compliance program isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about creating habits that truly protect your company every day.

How do you make training actually work?

1. Start with “why”
Explain the real risks: data breaches, regulatory penalties, loss of customer trust. Make sure every employee understands how training protects everyone.

2. Make it practical
Use real-world examples, not just theory. Simulate everyday situations so employees know exactly how to respond to threats.

3. Repeat and reinforce
Training isn’t a one-time event. Use reminders, quick talks, and short quizzes regularly to keep security top of mind.

4. Measure progress—not just attendance
Recognize positive behavior changes. Encourage employees to ask questions and report concerns or incidents.

Pro tip:
A culture of security starts with small daily habits. Make your training stick and protect your business for real.

Risk Assessment Simplified: GLB Act Requirements Explained

Your GLB Act risk assessment isn’t just a checkbox—it's the foundation for your entire compliance program.

Be specific. Start by identifying the exact risks unique to your business—not just generic threats. Focus on the information you collect, how it’s used, and where vulnerabilities may exist.

Tie risks to real operations. Review your business processes: where does sensitive data live, who accesses it, and how is it protected? Mapping this out helps you find the weak spots before they become real problems.

Document everything. Keep a clear record of what you check, what you find, and how you respond. This not only helps with compliance but also makes it easier to improve your processes over time.

Update regularly. Compliance isn’t a one-time event. Review your risk assessment as your business changes, and after any major operational shifts or incidents.

Train your team. Make sure everyone understands their role in reducing risk. Regular training helps prevent mistakes and keeps security top of mind.

Pro tip: Regulators expect your assessment to be actionable and tailored. Avoid generic templates and focus on YOUR unique risks.

A focused risk assessment protects your customers, your business, and keeps you compliant.

Your customers trust you with their most sensitive information. But do they really know how you collect, use, and share their data?

Under the GLB Act, every financial institution must provide a clear, easy-to-understand Privacy Notice. Here’s what you need to include:

• What data you collect: Be specific—list the types of customer information you handle (names, addresses, account numbers, etc.).
• How you use and protect data: Explain your business purposes for collecting data and outline the steps you take to safeguard it.
• Who you share it with: Clearly state if you share information with affiliates, service providers, or third parties, and why.
• How customers can opt out: If customers have the right to limit information sharing, provide clear, step-by-step instructions for opting out.
• When notices are provided: At the start of a customer relationship, annually, and whenever your privacy practices change.

Plain language matters: Avoid legal jargon. Use headings, bullet points, and make your notice easy to find—on your website, by email, or in print.

A transparent, customer-friendly Privacy Notice builds trust, sets you apart, and keeps your business compliant.
