Founded in 1984, Reading Horizons has spent nearly three decades developing and perfecting a reading system based on Charlotte Lockhart’s effective Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself methodology (now referred to as the Reading Horizons methodology). This method was first published by Lockhart in 1976, Reading Horizons partnered with her in 1984 to produce software based on the method, and Rea
ding Horizons purchased the full copyright in 2001. By embedding Lockhart’s effective method into all of its products, Reading Horizons has become the proven source of reading instruction for emerging and struggling readers, as well as English language learners. Reading Horizons products have been used in all types of educational settings, including: elementary and secondary schools, community colleges, adult-education centers, outreach programs, workplace literacy programs, and hundreds of correctional facilities nationwide. The Reading Horizons Discovery and Reading Horizons computer software programs, along with their corresponding direct-instruction materials, have taught hundreds of thousands of children, youth, and adults to read. Even those designated as non-readers have been able to advance several grade levels while using this interactive, multi-sensory program.
