Paul Tibbets' legacy is vast, and reaches well beyond August of 1945. The nose art featured in this patch was on his B-17 when he led the first daytime bombing mission into Occupied Europe. 72 years later, the same nose art, renamed "The Red Gremlin II" adorned a B-52, with his grandson's name on the canopy rail. And his grandson flew that jet.

A patch is insignificant, but paying tribute to Paul Tibbets' contribution to Bomber Heritage is certainly worthwhile.

This large format commemorative piece will be presented to Lt. Col. Richard Cole, Retired, as he accepts the Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award on behalf of the Doolittle Raiders on Tuesday, Dec. 31st at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, LA. Lt. Col. Cole was Jimmy Doolittle's copilot for the Raid, a recompense for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

A fly-over of a B-25 Mitchell has been arranged to kick off the game.
