Cremalab

Cremalab A design & technology consultancy that helps leaders understand and execute on great opportunities.

Crema is a design-led technology consultancy that helps companies build the custom software they need to compete in today’s market. Our product teams blend business strategy and technical expertise to create solutions for our clients’ most pressing needs. Whether companies need to automate processes, make more data-driven decisions, or prep for growth, they come to our team of experts to craft a world-class product experience. We offer a wide range of services from problem framing and business strategy to UX/UI design and development. Crema is not a "dev shop" that churns code without regard for the outcomes that follow. Our clients will tell you that our greatest service is not only providing high quality designs and code, but also bringing the critical thinking, collaboration, and spirit of partnership that carry the experience beyond its intended impact. Unlike other product agencies, our approach is highly bespoke and strategic. Our methodology is based around small cross-functional teams collaborating towards business outcomes. This agile-oriented model minimizes distractions, emphasizes impact, and provides clear communication paths to focus on the work at hand.

“Don’t recreate the moon.” 🌝

At some point in Crema's history, someone confidently blended “Don’t recreate the wheel” and “Shoot for the moon” into one sentence, and it has stayed in our vocab since.

The theme of last weeks was basically that goofy mantra.

Our clients count on us to keep pushing into what’s next, which means the ambition has to stay high. And yet some of the best work we did this year came from things that were already working and that we chose to commit to more fully.

TLDR; When we stop spending energy rebuilding what already works, we have far more of it to put toward the big, innovative swing.

So we’re going into this next season doing a bit of both - doubling down on what works, while keeping our sights set on the moon.

We've got a good thing going with this! Earning a couple hours of any technology leaders day is a rarity. So thank you to these folks who still believe in the value of community (IRL).

JE Dunn Construction hosted this People of Product meetup where we camped around three Q's:

1. How are your product or IT teams organized today?
Whether it’s by discipline, by product, by stage, or something else.

2. Are those teams optimized for speed or stability, and why?
Was that a decision made intentionally?

3. What might your team look like in 2030?
Think about the shape you’d create if you started from scratch.

Typically org charts change reactively: a hire here, a reorg there, and rarely a deliberate redesign. Meanwhile, the rate of change outside the building keeps outrunning the org chart. So, we spent the morning talking about what a team 'built to bend' might look like instead.

If Julie Nobrega & Alison Stark were pressed to pick their favorite sentiment from the KCBJ Women's Summit they said it would be this:

The only "wrong way" to do AI is to completely outsource your thinking to it.

Anita Newton reminded the 500 some leaders in the room that most of us already possess the skills and judgment to win with these tools. The key is to protect our confidence.

It landed with us because we're in the business of people, and we just happen to build technology. AI makes a great sparring partner, but the judgment ought to stay with us humans in the room. Simple enough!

Thanks Anita, for the food for thought. And the Kansas City Business Journal for a great morning.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. After picking ~400 lbs for Urban Produce Push KC (UPP) the whole company should be untouchable through Q3.

Spending the day rubbing elbows with some of our clients at the United Rentals Charity Classic was fantastic. But the true reason we come back each year is to support KidsTLC 🤝

We brought the hype at hole four and are proud to have helped sponsor an event that directly benefits families with children who have mental & behavioral health challenges in

Yes, 'Unlimited PTO' still exists out there.

No, it doesn't have to a be a toxic dynamic of taking too much or (more commonly) too little time. Here's what it looked like this summer at Crema.

WF-cabin or logging off completely to frolic in the national parks. In July, some cool staff members went some cool places - Vancouver, Idaho, and Montana to be specific.

*We highly recommend spinning up a travel slack channel if you haven't already with your co-workers.*

Tyler Hilker and Dan Linhart landed in Chicago for the BuiltWorlds conference. A couple days of
conversations ahead, and some open room in their calendars.

If you're at the conference or in the city, go find them. They're friendly.
