Djembe Yaru Djembe Yaru, Kalamazoo Michigan's West Afrikan drum and dance group was founded in 2007 by Nathaniel Waller.

We are a group of performers and teachers dedicated to the expression of traditional and modern West Afrikan music and dance.

Our last highlight for women's history month is a Kalamazoo legend. We honor Helen L. Fox
Helen taught community music lessons in the 1970’s at the Moss Piano Studio, and continued teaching for over 30 years in her community. She was in the business of enriching countless lives through lessons that extended beyond music, to faith, hope and love. Even in 2015, at 95 years old, Helen continued to spend her time in the neighborhoods of Kalamazoo, supporting community members and building relationships. Helen lived a long, accomplished, and giving life. Today we honor her.
