Glenn, Audrey, and I (G Whiz Tech Solutions) are opening a GoFundMe fund raiser to raise enough money to purchase 10 iPads for the Hope Center for Autism (a Martin County School District charter school serving approx. 90 students). They are a client of ours and after seeing first hand the impact these devices can have on these students, we wanted to try to do something to help them achieve a goal of each student having an iPad. G Whiz has started off the fund raiser with a $500 donation. Won't you join us? More information/details on the GoFundMe page.

So its been over 3 years since we posted on our page... but these things seem to need to be said...

If you are surfing the internet, and a pop up says you are infected with something and you need to call a phone number... Please don't call the number... Its all a scam (ALWAYS) to try and get you to let them have access to your computer and "show" you how infected you are and try to get you to pay them money for the privilege of them scanning your computer and seeing if you have anything worth taking. You may or may not have malware/viruses on your computer, but they are simply trying to take advantage of you. If you are concerned, deal with a local computer shop (it doesn't need to be ours). Also.. please don't google (or bing or yahoo) search HP support or Dell support, or Microsoft support and call the first number that shows up in the search results. Many of those are scams also as you may not be actually clicking on legitimate websites.

Oh and while I'm thinking about it... don't ever click on a link in an email purporting to be from your bank or Paypal or about your Apple ID or any other online account you have. That is a sure fire way to be directed to a spoofed website where you will proceed to enter your ID and password giving it to identity thieves. Always go directly to the websites. Also NO legitimate email will ask you for your user ID or password.

We love helping our clients... but we really feel bad when people contact us after they have been taken advantage by these social engineering tactics. Please beware.

Ill be getting a couple of these.

I'll admit that I'm not the best person to be writing about a do-it-yourself project involving electricity. After all, I've zapped myself more than once

If you have an iPad with iOS 5, you can now split or undock the keyboard. When you are in a situation where the keyboard is displayed, just press and hold the keyboard key (lower right key on the keyboard) for a second and the two options will be presented. Splitting creates two smaller keyboards so that it is easier to type with your thumbs while holding the iPad. Undocking allows you to move the keyboard up and down the screen.

iOS 5 - you can now sync your iPhone/iPad over a wireless network. The computer and the device just need to be on the same wifi network. You need to tell iTunes you want to do this In the Options section of the Summary page when you have your device plugged into the computer (perhaps for the past time!).
