typesetting completed, proofed and corrected over at Linotypesetting.com.
2,700 cards worth of 120 # Mohawk Superfine cut to 2-up size, it was time to get ink on paper for a run of 2,500 shells. 11pt mag plates from Owosso Graphic Arts, Inc., I started with the logo bug in Pantone 7461.
11pt on patent base is unforgiving for roller height setting. too low and too much ink squish. too high and… no ink on the face of the plate. the C&P Craftsman press has adjustable roller bearers that make fine tuning possible. it’s a bit of a pain, and mostly trial and error even with a Vandercook roller setting gauge. but once it’s dialed in, you’re good until your rollers wear in.
the Pantone 7461 from Blue Press Ink was a solid match, so thanks to them for the accuracy.
the Pantone ran Saturday, then washup and plate swap. the black ran yesterday, then I started planning out making up the Linotype work for the 23 lots of cards that I’ll be imprinting on the shells. the balance will be held for subsequent hires and title changes.
