JVCKENWOOD Celebrates Two Major Milestones in 2023
This year marks the 40th anniversary of JVCKENWOOD USA entering the LMR business in the U.S. It is also the 60th anniversary of JVCKENWOOD USA as a U.S. based company.
The company known as Kenwood Corporation was launched as Kasuga Radio Co., Ltd. in 1946 and quickly became known for high quality audio equipment, introducing the industry’s first fully transistorized audio products. Kenwood Corporation, with a 69-year history, and JVC, with an 87-year history, merged into JVCKENWOOD Corporation in 2011. During the past 60 years of U.S. operations, JVCKENWOOD has built a tradition of excellence in providing customers in industry, government, and public safety with innovative products, built to the most demanding standards.
“Forty years ago, when we entered the U.S. LMR market, the two-way radios from Kenwood Electronics, Inc. were crystal-controlled. So much has changed since then but our commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation has remained the same. We’re excited to look back on forty years of providing first quality, rugged and reliable equipment to our customers in every segment of American industry,” said Mark Jasin, Executive Vice President & GM, Communications Sector. “Anniversaries provide the opportunity to look back at all that’s been accomplished and celebrate with our land mobile radio dealer partners, manufacturer’s reps, staff, and especially our customers, many of which have been using KENWOOD radio products since we entered the U.S. market in 1983.”
Highlights of the past forty years include the multiple manufacturer engineering alliance that led to the development of the NXDN™ digital standard, which is now utilized throughout the industry. In 2007, KENWOOD introduced the NEXEDGE® brand of conventional and trunked mobiles, portables, and repeaters, incorporating advanced technology specifically designed for public service and enterprise users. Capable of 25 and 12 kHz analog operation, NEXEDGE systems can also operate in 12.5 and very narrow banded
6.25 kHz NXDN digital modes. EF Johnson, a global turnkey P25 solution provider, was acquired by JVCKENWOOD in 2014 and has become a major force in P25 Systems Solutions.
