Kenworth,...KENTUCKY Is A State, In The U.S.A. !.
The Senate confirmed Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) as the new Homeland Security secretary in a 54–45 vote Monday evening that broke largely along party lines.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was the only Republican to oppose the nomination, while Democratic Sens. John Fetterman (PA) and Martin Heinrich (NM) voted in favor.
Sen. Mullin will replace outgoing Secretary Kristi Noem, whom President Trump fired earlier this month amid turmoil at the Homeland Security Department, which has been reeling since the January killings of two American citizens in Minneapolis by federal agents.
Secretary Noem also faced bipartisan scrutiny over a $220 million ad campaign that featured her prominently and was contracted to a firm run by the husband of her chief DHS spokesperson.
The Homeland Security Department — a sprawling agency that includes ICE, CBP, TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard and Secret Service, among others — has been without federal funding since Feb. 14 as Democrats demand reforms to immigration enforcement operations.
During his confirmation hearing last week, Sen. Mullin signaled he would make changes to operations while continuing to carry out the president’s mass deportation campaign.
“My goal in six months is that we’re not in the lead story every single day,” he told the Senate Homeland Security Committee. “My goal is for people to understand we’re out there, we’re protecting them, and we’re working with them.”
The Oklahoma Republican said he would require judicial warrants for federal immigration agents to enter private homes or businesses, a departure from his predecessor’s position.
“We will not enter a home or a place of business without a judicial warrant unless we’re pursuing an individual that runs into a place of business or a house,” he said.
