THE 3-2-1 RULE
3 — copies of your data
2 — different types of storage
1 — copy kept off-site

That last number is the one almost everybody skips.

An external drive sitting on the same desk as your computer isn't really a
backup. It's the same fire, the same flood, the same burglary, the same
spilled coffee. If something takes out the room, it takes out both copies.

Secure online backup is what covers the "1" — your files stored off-site,
away from whatever happens at your desk.

TECH TIP 💡

Running two antivirus programs does not give you double the protection. It
gives you less.

Two active engines end up scanning the same files at the same moment, each
one flagging the other's activity as suspicious. You get a slower computer
and weaker coverage, not stronger.

One good antivirus, kept updated, running properly. That's it.

Most infections don't announce themselves with a big scary warning. They just
make your computer act a little... off. 🔍

Six things worth paying attention to:

1. Pop-ups appear when no browser is even open
2. Your homepage or search engine changed itself
3. The fan runs hard while you're doing absolutely nothing
4. Programs launch, crash or freeze at random
5. Contacts get emails you never sent
6. Your antivirus quietly turned itself off

That last one is the big tell. Malware's first job is usually disabling the
thing that would catch it.
