A Business Insider article asks for programmers’ thoughts. But are the goals to better assist engineers, or make them obsolete? If the current landscape isn’t changed substantially, what the does tech sector look like for young graduates?

Australian teens under 16 are no longer allowed on social media. “Social media companies—including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, X, Reddit, Kick, Twitch, and Facebook—are now required to institute age verification or face a fine of up to ~$32 million for repeated offenses.”

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak quietly gave away $10 million of his own stock to reward early Apple employees who had been left out of the company’s riches.

In 1980, when Apple went public, some of the garage team that built Apple didn’t receive stock options.

Wozniak felt this was unfair. So he created the “WozPlan,” personally offering chunks of his shares at a nominal price to around 80 Apple staff who had missed out.

Those employees suddenly benefited from Apple’s IPO boom, thanks to Woz’s generosity.

He did it simply because “it was the right thing.”

This act of kindness was virtually unheard of in Silicon Valley, where founders rarely give up their own equity.

But Wozniak valued the contributions of everyone who helped build Apple’s success, and he literally shared the wealth with them.

“I gave about $10M of my own stock to them because it was the right thing.” - Steve Wozniak

Success means little if you don’t lift others up with you.
