Do you really need an anechoic chamber to measure loudspeakers? No. You just need a big enough room, and the ability to ignore the earliest reflections (it's called sample windowing.) Suspending a speaker 20 feet in the air in a field will let you measure down to 100Hz without any issues!

Ever wonder why sound recording engineers call 400Hz the 'boxy' range?

Sound travels at about 1000ft/s; so, you'd need a box about 2.5 feet long by 2.5 feet wide to get a resonance at 400Hz. Try sticking your head in a box the next time you're listening to some music: I promise it will sound awful!
