Y’all, it’s officially Madison Street Festival ( Madison Street Festival ) season, and I could not be more excited.

I help out at the information booth during the festival (the trusted “ask me anything” spot), and I sit in on monthly meetings with the committee year-round to help pull it all together. Because a festival that feels effortless to walk through takes a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work to actually happen.

This year I’ll be manning the info trailer with my friends, so come find me and say hi! And if you see me coming your way with my phone up… smile! I’ll probably be grabbing cute little snippets of vendors while I’m out there.

Any organization that can bring a free community block party to life year after year deserves all the support it can get. Come see me at the booth Sat, Oct 3rd!

Had 3 discovery calls this week. Three different businesses, three different industries. And every single one of them brought up the same thing without me even asking.

They didn’t want AI-generated design.

Not a logo that looks like it got typed into a prompt bar. Not a flyer with seventeen fonts and a random script font slapped on for good measure. Not a cartoon version of themselves because that’s the trend of the month.

They wanted something that felt like them. Intentional. One of a kind. Thought through, not generated.

So here’s what I told all three of them: that’s exactly why I do the meet cute call first. Not a sales pitch, just a real conversation. So you can see I’m an actual human sitting on the other side of the screen. Someone who lives right here in your area, who wants your business to actually succeed, and who’s genuinely thinking through every single detail with you in mind.

Heck, we could even grab lunch and talk it through in person if you’re local.

If you’re tired of your brand looking like it came out of a template (or a robot), let’s talk. Book your free meet cute call, link’s in my bio.

I had a call with a new client last week and she named the hard part about ten minutes in. Their clients span a huge range, and she doesn’t want the brand to pick a side.

Too polished and half her people feel like they only take high-end clients. Too casual and those with the bigger budgets stop calling.

She called it the impossible middle.

And honestly, that middle is where most service based businesses live and don’t realize it.

My whole job is listening to what you keep circling around and pulling the actual thing out of it.

So if you’ve been waiting to reach out until you can explain what you want, you can stop waiting.

Come tell me your half-formed idea. I’m nosy and this is my favorite part.

Some of my favorite meetings happen over coffee, not Zoom.

I sat down with Heather, the owner of The Dreamt Garden | Madison, AL Flower Shop, a few weeks back (we met through Madison Mompreneur coworking — if you’re local and haven’t been, you need to go) and just talked. Life, business, what she pictured when she closed her eyes and thought about her shop.

She’s opening it downtown Madison, AL this fall where you can make your floral bouquet and peruse the charming garden shop with this moody, European, almost heirloom-German-cottage feel. It’ll have deep greens, pops of antique brass, the kind of place you walk into and don’t want to leave.

She pulled out a Pinterest board full of inspiration and illustrations she loved (no vague “just make it pretty,” she knew exactly what she was after). We built her business cards straight out of that same feeling. The kind of card you actually want to keep in your wallet.

Downtown Madison, this fall. Keep your eyes open for her and give her a follow!

Six years of running a design business in North Alabama has taught me one thing: nobody 👏🏻 builds 👏🏻anything 👏🏻 good 👏🏻 by 👏🏻 themselves 👏🏻

So here’s where you’ll find me when I’m not at my desk designing brand identities and building websites for small businesses.

🌸 ANEW (ANEW Decatur | Women’s Networking) where I’m a member and also help run their social media and communications, and boost connections locally with speakers and quarterly networking meetups in Decatur, AL.

🍊 Madison Mompreneur (Madison Mompreneur), because juggling kids and a business is a whole lot easier next to women who actually get it. Coworking and sitting quietly as we do all our own tasks for the day is time (and life) saving!

🎨 Madison Street Festival (Madison Street Festival) volunteer committee member, which is a truly fulfilling to be a part of for a one day event in October. It’s one I’ve been going to since I was like 10 years old and now am helping plan with them! It’s one very good weekend worth it every time.

Small business here is a whole ecosystem. Sitting across from someone who’s got the whole vision in her head but no words for it yet, and helping her find them… that never gets old. We show up for each other. We send each other clients. We text at 9pm about pricing questions.

So if you’re building something in North Alabama and it feels like you’re doing it alone, you’re not. Come find us. 🤍

The website went live before the doors did.

That's the part of this job I love most — watching a brand go from an idea in someone's head (in this case, a ChatGPT logo and a very clear feeling) all the way to a real, live storefront people can walk into.

Barefield's of Madison is bringing a name that's been part of Alabama since 1985 to a new home in Madison. I got to help build the bridge.

If you're sitting on a brand idea and a folder of inspiration you can't quite make sense of, my DMs are open. 🤍

John and Heather came to me with a logo they’d made in ChatGPT.

Some designers would clutch their pearls. I did not.

That logo did exactly what it needed to do — it got the idea out of their heads and onto a screen, so we had something real to talk about.

Hunting lodge meets country club. Navy and gold. The kind of place that looks like it’s been on that block forever.

That’s not cheating. That’s a starting point. And starting points are kind of my whole thing when it comes to small business branding.

There’s a building on Main Street in📍Historic Downtown Madison, Alabama that’s been standing since the early 1900s. It used to be a mercantile. Now it’s a charming, family-owned clothing boutique for the whole family.

Barefield's of Madison is bringing a name to Madison that’s been part of Alabama since 1985. John and Heather came to me with a logo they’d made in ChatGPT and a very clear feeling about what they wanted the place to be. Hunting lodge meets country club. Navy and gold. The kind of store that looks like it’s been on that block forever.

That logo did exactly what it was supposed to do. It got the idea out of their heads and onto a screen so we had something real to talk about. That’s not cheating. That’s a starting point.

So we built out from it. Four marks, navy and gold, a little real history woven in. Signage, packaging, hangers, labels, stickers, and a website that went live before the doors did.

From first draft to storefront. That’s the part of this job I love most. 🤍

I’ve had women apologize to me before they even finish a sentence. “Sorry, I know this doesn’t make sense, I’m just gonna word-vomit for a minute.”

Girl. That word-vomit is exactly what I need. That’s the job.

I’m not here to hit you with jargon or make you feel behind for not knowing what “brand architecture” means.

I’m here to listen to the rambly, unorganized, three-Pinterest-boards version of your vision and hand you back a brand that actually makes sense.

If that’s the kind of clarity you’re looking for, my DMs are open.

I’m low key launching the updated Hatched website knowing full well there’s still tweaks to make.

A typo I’ll probably catch tomorrow. A page that needs one more pass. A button I’ll want to move an inch to the left tomorrow.

And I’m doing it anyway, because “done” was never actually the goal. LIVE was.

If you’re a business owner sitting on your own “someday I’ll launch it…when it’s perfect,” this is your permission slip too. Perfect never comes.

Here’s why it matters👇🏻👇🏻
94% of first impressions of a business come down to website design (thanks for the stat HubSpot)

People decide how they feel about you before they’ve read a single word you wrote. So a live site with a few tweaks left is still doing its job. A perfect site sitting in drafts is doing nothing at all.

And honestly, this launch feels extra full circle timed with Hatched turning 6 this year. Six years of learning exactly what a growing business actually needs from a design standpoint, and building the new services around that.

It’s live. Needing tweaks and all. And honestly? That feels pretty good!

I’m curious. Are you Team “launch it messy” or Team “wait for perfect”? Drop your answer below 👇🏻
