As the whole of Huntsville knows....we have a slightly warped sense of humor....LOL!! And with that.....we love sharing these awesome signs by Vinvce The Sign Guy.....why....he is a true wordsmith.....who loves making you laugh...and think!!

I had to use this particular one....because, well....we all know what 'assuming' does!🤣 However, I would like to note that assuming....has become a MAJOR passtime for millions of people worldwide!! So, let's discuss what this actually is.....Third Place Erosion!🧐

WHAT IS THIRD PLACE EROSION?
Third Plae Erosion is a social environment separate from the two primary environments of home ("first place") and work ("second place"). In other words, it is places like your church, your bowling league, community centers, and local clubs.....basically, places where people gather together whether to worship God or play games, or simply socialize The PROBLEM.....Isolation!! Over the last few decades, participation in these physical community groups has plummeted. And the effect on our communities is showing up in rather strange ways!

US vs. THEM MENTALITY!
As we isolated and withdrew from regular, face-to-face interactions with neighbors and others in our connunity.....especially with people who hold different viewpoints.....people have hibernated into online echo chambers. Where disagreements from "I disagree with my neighbor Bob" have evolved into very juvenile reactions like: "Anyone who thinks differently than me is an enemy."

People....we have allowed hate groups to evolve into full blown wars in our neighborhoods and communities. And, when you choose to post a Review.....let's remember that the objective is to leave constructive information about your experience, so the business can learn and do better. It isn't for you to behave like a little monster and take all of your stress out on someone!!

We must, as adults lead the way to stronger relationships and better communication especially when it comes to others who do not share our opinions. There use to be time, when we could 'agree to disagree' and still be friends, still be family....still be kind and understanding. WE must get back to caring for and positively impacting our communities....especially for our children.....the most precious gift we were ever given!

🍩It's Humble Beginnings | 1800s
Dutch settlers brought "olykoeks" (oily cakes) to America. Captain Hanson Gregory is credited with punching the hole in 1847 — no more doughy, undercooked centers.
🍩The Salvation Army & WWI | 1917
Volunteers known as "Donut Lassies" fried donuts in helmets on the front lines of WWI France to boost soldier morale. These women became American heroes.
🍩A New Holiday is Born | 1938
The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in Chicago to honor those WWI volunteers and to raise funds during the Great Depression. Held every first Friday of June.

Today we have the thrill of celebrating this scrumptious holiday worldwide and locally we have a few shops giving away free donuts!!😋😋😋

I truly believe that we need to regroup as a country.....and remember one of the Golden Rules: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!" 🧐

Yeah, I get it....it sounds kind of hokey....right, but....honestly have you looked around lately?? Not only the foulness of the language, but people fly off the handle over nothing anymore. 🤯

My business is working in digital marketing....promoting my clients and helping them build their organic presence. And frankly, people have stopped treating each other with any consideration at all.....and then they wonder why their children act out and don't respect them?

I am without a doubt an optimist....so let's use another Golden Oldie.....there is "No time like the present!!" Which means, today is the best day to get started on turning over a new leaf!

Words are more powerful than you can imagine.....they can inspire....they can lift up and they can humiliate and destroy. But, what it....what if we simply used our words....to build everyone up....to share a nice sentiment, give a compliment?

Few lessons in life are more important than to treat each other with respect and kindness. We all know someone who is generally nice, always has a good word to share. They actually listen when you are having a conversation and often put others first. When they pay it forward with a compliment, there is sincerity in the words they speak. Today is not only about saying something nice, it's also a day to do nice things for others.

This day was founded by Mayor Keith Summey of North Charleston, South Carolina on June 1, 2006. This wonderful day recognizes the communication efforts of specialist Dr. Mitch Carnell, author of Say Something Nice: Be a Lifter at Work.

Todays' Funny Sign, is another awesome punny from Vince The Sign Guy! I chose this particular one, as it was one his earlier signs......when he was publishing at the Indian Hills Community Center.

Today, we take the time to pause as we get to enjoy the last day of a long weekend....to remember the 'why!" We have this day to enjoy because of the sacrifice of generations before and during.....us.

Those brave men and women who chose to step up and be more.....chose to stand for what they believed in. They served our country in the armed forces....across all branches to protect something bigger than themselves...Our FCountry and our Freedoms!

Without the brave men and women who have given their all, we would not have the opportunity to enjoy the Freedoms they fought and died for. So, today of all days....please take a moment to remember them....one and all!

Yes, as many of you already know, I am both a Trekkie fan and fan of Star Wars....I mean, the whole ideation that I have to choose sides....well, that isn't going to happen.😆

However, long before (unless of course, you watch Ancient Aliens).....we could venture into the wild blue yonder....there was only the dream of flight. We looked up, we witnessed the skies filled with stars, planets and numerous flying creatures from birds and insects to seedlings that flew on the breeze, but the abiliy to fly was several centuries away.

Naturally, paper airplanes flew long before real ones ever did ✈! In fact, both Ancient China and Japan were folding paper around 500 B.C. This craft was born alongside both kite-making and origami. Obviously, many centuries before powered aviation, let alone manned flights!

ENGINEERING ROOTS:
✈️Leonardo da Vinci used parchment models to prototype his ornithopter and parachute designs.
✈️The Wright Brothers folded paper to test aerodynamic shapes in Dayton, Ohio, long before their 1903 flight that changed the aviation world forever.
✈️Jack Northrop, Lockheed co-founder, used paper planes as scaled test models for full-size aircraft during the 1930s.

FUNNY FACTOID:
During the 19th-century classrooms and offices, did not referene them as "airplanes" at all, in fact, they were called "paper darts." Many were even designed to flap their wings like birds. The phrase "paper airplane" didn't catch on unitl somewhere between the 1950s and 60's.

According to Guinness World Record, the person credited with the longest airborne flight of a paper airplane is Takuo Toda. On December 19, 2010, his hand-made origami paper airplane remained in flight for an impressive 27.9 seconds!

Without them....without their commitment to God and Country....we would not have the freedoms we enjoy.

Maintaining a healthy work force can be harder than imagined. However, through initiatives and helpful programs, this campaign encourages employers to engage their employees in healthful activities. Overall, time has proven that employers with wellness programs have healthier employees who happier and thus, more productive. Results have shown that Wellness programs will reduce overall healthcare costs, illness and injury.🤔

Benefits for employees who participate have seen lower stress levels, better overall health, and, not surprisingly.... improved confidence!

Established in 1999 as a congressional observance to honor the sacrifices of the United States Armed Forces. It only seems fitting, to observe this during the month we pause, reflect, and express gratitude to every man and woman who serves this country.

Today, we have six branches serving our country in the United States Armed Forces including: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Together with National Guard and Reserve units, the total military force numbers 2.2 million strong. Every single day these individuals, and their families, make extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation.

A MONTH OF RECOGNITION | OUR HISTORY:
Throughout May, several significant dates invite us to honor military service in specific and meaningful ways. Loyalty Day opens the month, followed by VE Day on May 8, commemorating the end of World War II in Europe in 1945. Armed Forces Day and Military Spouses Day recognize those currently serving and the family members who stand beside them. We close this month with Memorial Day....to honor every soldier who gave their all!

GREAT WAYS TO SHOW SUPPORT:
Grand gestures are not required...in fact, simple, thoughtful gestures are often more personal.
🪖Thank a service member or veteran directly for their service. Attend or organize a community luncheon or event in their honor.
