The Space & Missile Defense Symposium traces back to 1997, born out of the Army missile defense command's 40th-anniversary event, and has run as an annual symposium since 1998 - nearly three decades now.

Why Huntsville? Because this city grew up around the same mission: Redstone Arsenal, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and a dense network of aerospace and defense contractors.
