October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

A good time to look at your cybersecurity and ask some questions that go beyond, “Do we have antivirus?”

If ransomware hit tomorrow, could it get to your backups too?

If you had to restore your systems, have you actually tested that process recently?

If your network went down, how long could your business realistically operate?

Do you know exactly who has admin access to your systems, including vendors and former employees?

When someone leaves, can their access be shut off immediately?

If your internet went down for a few days, what parts of your business could actually keep running?

And if an employee gets an email asking them to change a vendor’s bank information or send money, is there a process to verify it before they do?

These aren't hypothetical questions. They're the things we look at when we're trying to figure out how prepared a business really is.

Cybersecurity isn't just about preventing an attack. It's about knowing what happens when something goes wrong and having a plan that works in the real world.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, take a few minutes to ask the questions. If you're not sure about some of the answers, that's useful information too.

Another Annual West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Conference in the books, and this year was a special one as the Chamber celebrated 90 years.

We look forward to this event every year because there really isn’t anything quite like having so many of West Virginia’s business and community leaders together in one place. For us at DIGIT3, it’s a great opportunity to reconnect with people we’ve known for years, meet new people from across the state, and hear what others are seeing, building, and working toward in their own communities.

We always leave with new conversations, new ideas, and a few more people to call when we’re looking for a different perspective. That’s one of our favorite things about being part of West Virginia’s business community.
