A technology company providing Voice, Video and Internet to residential and business customers. www.AcenTek.net

AcenTek provides Voice, Video and Internet services in 20 communities in southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa and 14 communities in Michigan. The company was formed after World War II at a time when telephone service in rural, southeastern Minnesota was inadequate. Most of the telephone lines in operation were owned and operated by groups of farmers, and it was not unusual to find party lines with as many as 30 customers on a line. So a group of farmers representing many telephone companies met in 1949 to discuss improving rural telephone service using REA loans. Their meeting led to the formation of the Fillmore County Telephone Cooperative in 1950, as a cooperative corporation for the purpose of bringing telephone service to rural southeastern Minnesota. Acquisitions started in July 1951 when the company purchased the Ostrander Telephone Company, with that company’s 104 subscribers. From that time to 1986, the company grew as it acquired many other small telephone companies. AcenTek now has over 13,000 access lines in the Minnesota and Iowa exchanges. Adding the Michigan subsidiaries, the total is over 21,000. Employment has grown to 135 employees–93 in Minnesota and Iowa; 20 in Mesick, Michigan; and 22 in Allendale, Michigan. Along the way, (in 1956) the Fillmore County Telephone Cooperative changed its name to Ace Telephone Association. In 1999, to better reflect the full range of communications services offered, Ace Telephone Association began doing business as Ace Communications Group. Ace Communications Group has evolved into being more than just a telephone/communications company. So in April of 2014 Ace Telephone Association, along with its subsidiaries began doing business as AcenTek, Ascending Technology.

Earlier this week we caught up with crews working in Harpers Ferry. AcenTek is bringing fiber to the residents and businesses within the city limits.

We first began our fiber build in Harpers back in '23 when we had been awarded a grant which enabled us to build fiber only to specific locations that had insufficient internet speeds. Even though we were excited to build fiber to the rural parts of Harpers, we knew our work in this community was not yet done.

Last spring we returned to begin building fiber to those in town and just last week, construction officially began. With the help of our project parnters, West Union Trenching LLC and Cooperative Network Services, AcenTek is on pace to complete our fiber build to the entire community by the end of this year.

AcenTek began with a few farmers searching for a way to connect. Today, on National Farmer Day, we honor these hardworking individuals who keep the world going. Just like farmers see a barren field and picture the harvest, those who founded our company identified a problem and envisioned the solution. Our love for farmers goes way back and that is why it is our privilege to celebrate all the farmers today. Join us in thanking a farmer for the important work they do. Leave a comment offering, thanking a farmer you know, for the important work they do.

Did you know that the sun can actually disrupt the signal for your video service? And did you know there is nothing your provider can do to fix it? It’s true. Each fall and each spring there is a time when the sun aligns perfectly with our satellites and the energy it is emitting can cause a brief signal outage. You might see a change in the picture quality of your TV, or possibly, the picture will go out momentarily. These sun outages typically occur sporadically for about a week during the fall and spring. AcenTek wants to make you aware that that the greatest chances for sun outages to occur is October 7-12, between the hours of noon and 4pm.

To learn more about sun outages, please visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_outage
**Please be aware that this is a prediction based on a satellite calculations tool and is an estimate only.
