DNS filtering can stop a dangerous website before it opens.

When you click a link, your device uses DNS to find the website. DNS filtering checks the address against known phishing, malware and scam sites. If it finds a match, it blocks the page.

It can protect company computers inside and outside the office, depending on how it is set up.

It will not catch every dangerous site, and legitimate pages can occasionally be blocked. Your IT provider should review the reports, handle exceptions and check that every managed device is covered.

An FBI official said the bureau identified a North Korean remote IT worker who had been working for a US government agency.

The agency was not named. The FBI also did not say how the person was hired, how long they worked there or what they could access.

North Korean remote workers have used fake identities and people in other countries to receive company laptops on their behalf.

Before hiring someone remotely for a role with access to important systems, verify their identity, previous employment and location. Send company equipment only after those checks are complete.

Who controls the main admin account for your accounting software, CRM and file storage?

Your company should control it. Don’t tie it to one employee’s personal email address or phone number.

▶️ At least two trusted people have admin access.
▶️ Billing and recovery details are current.
▶️ You can still access the service when an employee leaves.

Google Sheets can now turn spreadsheet data into a dashboard, project board or other interactive tool using Gemini.

You describe what you want in plain language. Sheets Canvas builds the dashboard or project board. Changes made in the new view update the original spreadsheet, and changes in the spreadsheet update the new view.

The initial release is available on the web in English for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Workspace Enterprise Standard and Plus, and certain Education add-ons.

It can use data from one spreadsheet tab at a time.

Administrator access lets employees install software and change security settings on their computers. If an account is compromised, that same access can give malicious software more control.

Most employees don’t need administrator access for everyday work.

October 13, 2026 is the end of support date for Office 2021.

After that date, Word, Excel and Outlook will continue to open, but Microsoft will stop providing security updates, bug fixes and technical support.

Because the software keeps working, it can remain on company computers for months or years after support ends.

Any new security problems found in Office 2021 may be left unfixed.

A short power cut can shut down your router, firewall, switches and local server.

An uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, provides temporary battery power to the equipment connected to it. It can keep your internet equipment and internet-based phones working during a short outage, or give a server time to shut down safely.

UPS batteries wear out. Ask your IT provider which equipment is connected to a UPS and when each battery was last tested or replaced.

Open your work calendar and check what someone outside your company can see.

Meeting titles can reveal client names, projects, interviews and travel. Some calendar settings also expose the guest list and meeting description.

External users usually only need to see whether you are free or busy. Keep detailed titles and descriptions limited to people who need them.

Check shared calendars too. A team calendar created years ago may still be visible to former employees, contractors or anyone with the old link.

Don't trust hotel Wi-Fi. It can be compromised even when you've joined the correct network.

Microsoft has found attackers taking control of the systems used for Wi-Fi login pages at hotels and conference venues.

Once the login system has been compromised, guests can be redirected to a fake Microsoft 365 sign-in page or shown a fake browser update that installs malware.

The timing makes the request believable. You've just connected, the hotel page opens and it says an update is needed before you can continue.

Checking the network name with reception won't help because the hotel's real Wi-Fi is involved.

Use your phone's hotspot for work whenever possible. If you have to use hotel Wi-Fi, never enter your work password into the hotel registration page.

And if the page asks you to download an update, certificate or security tool, disconnect. Joining Wi-Fi shouldn't require you to install anything.
