A few decisions tend to determine whether a construction or manufacturing modernization initiative succeeds or stalls. Most of them happen before a single line of code gets written.
Three areas deserve attention first:
1. Data and integration readiness. Any application or agent is only as good as the ERP, equipment, and field data it connects to.
2. Governance and compliance. These requirements need to be part of the architecture from the start, especially where safety and regulatory compliance carry real consequences.
3. Implementation experience. Look for a partner with genuine experience designing applications around real industrial and field operations, not just a platform certification and a generic template.
Modernization does not begin with a tool. It begins with understanding the systems, processes, requirements, and risks the tool will need to support.
