One of the highlights of our TEI economic forecast was hearing from Sidika Gülfem Bayram, Ph.D., the Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair of Finance at the University of St. Thomas.

Her 2027 playbook covered six areas entrepreneurs should be thinking about: interest rates, energy and tariffs, hiring, AI, the data-center buildout, and timing major business moves.

The AI point really stood out to me: Put AI where your staff already use it.

The message was simple: don’t chase 20 AI experiments. Identify 2–3 practical use cases, implement them, measure the results, and scale what works.

That’s the difference between talking about AI and actually using it to improve a business.

Great day in Houston bringing together CEOs and business leaders from across the city for thoughtful discussions on AI, data centers, and what the future holds for business.

Rather than just complaining online about these issues, we had practical conversations about solutions, opportunities, and how to move forward.

I also had the privilege of interviewing Jonathan Mackenzie, founder of Turtlebox, for an inspiring conversation about entrepreneurship, building a business, and the lessons learned along the way.

Always great to bring smart people together, exchange ideas, and focus on solutions rather than problems.

"Moving to the cloud is expensive."

It's a statement we hear often, but it's usually the result of poor planning rather than the cloud itself.

Sometimes, what’s holding your business back is what you’ve been carrying for years.

Driving through this giant Redwood, I was struck by something you don’t notice from the outside.

The tree is still alive. Still growing. Still standing.

But the center has been completely hollowed out.

And somehow, that’s a pretty good picture of what AI is doing to business.

AI is hollowing out the repetitive, inefficient and manual work that has accumulated inside organizations for years.

The goal isn’t to replace the tree.

It’s to remove what no longer needs to be there so the organization can continue to grow.

That’s how we think about AI at AVATAR Managed Services

Don’t start with “What can AI do?”

Start with:

“What should we stop doing manually?”

Then build the automation, security, infrastructure and processes around it.

AI isn’t about making businesses less human.

It’s about removing the unnecessary work so people can spend more time doing the things that actually require humans.

The tree is still standing.

It just found a way to grow around what was no longer necessary.

That’s the opportunity AI gives businesses today.
