UPDATE: According to unofficial reports, the horse was freed overnight.

Multi-Agency Horse Rescue Underway in Amelia County

Amelia County, Va. — A multi-agency rescue operation is currently underway after a horse became trapped down an embankment in Amelia County, sources tell us.

The incident is reportedly taking place in the 16000 block of Royalton Road, where sources say the horse became stuck in mud in a wooded area approximately six feet down an embankment.

Multiple fire departments from surrounding counties have responded to assist with the rescue, which reportedly began earlier this evening.

Crews remain on scene actively working to safely remove the horse from the embankment.

The Amelia County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a phone scam targeting citizens in our community.

Scammers are calling and pretending to be with the Sheriff’s Office, telling citizens they have missed jury duty and now owe a fine or fee. They may threaten that a warrant will be issued for your arrest if you do not pay immediately.
⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM‼️

The Amelia County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you and demand money over the phone to avoid arrest or a warrant.
If you receive one of these calls:
● Do not provide personal or financial information.
● Do not send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any other form of payment.
● Hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly if you are unsure whether a call is legitimate.

These scammers can be very convincing and may even make the caller ID appear legitimate.
Please share this post, and make sure your family members especially elderly relatives and neighbors are aware of this scam.

When in doubt, hang up and call us directly.
