The customer came in with a gaming computer that will reboot after 5 minutes or so on its own, throwing a 'kernel error'. This problem is consistently easy to duplicate. Overheating? No, CPU temperature checked out. RAM? No, replacement test memory didn't make any difference. But, a 6 month old 'new' PC using DDR3 caused a suspicion. Then the CPU is a 4th gen i7 4700, that is 10+ years old! Then, the GPU is an 8 year old RX 580. We temporarily switch out with our test RX580, no difference. We then decided to make a sector-to-sector copy of the hard drive, bam! That's it. The hard drive has failed and cannot complete a total copy. We then talked to the customer to see if he wanted a 500GB ssd or a 1TB ssd. (The motherboard does not have a NVMe slot! So old.). We did a clean load of Windows 11, placed all his recovered files where they belonged. Tested fine but full of spyware, removed. Stressed tested it and finished in one day. The Hevenly Benchmark scored 2367. Our entry level gaming PC is 7000+, mid range around 10k+ and high end 15k+.
