Most shops will only sell you what they own the machine for. Here's the honest version.

SCREEN PRINT wins when you're ordering 50+ pieces of the same design in 1 to 3 colors. The setup cost gets spread across the whole run, so your per-shirt price drops hard at volume.

DTF wins when you need under 50, or when your logo has gradients, photos, or more than three colors. No screens to burn means no setup fee — and full color costs exactly the same as one color.

The line where it flips is usually around 30 pieces.

So if you need 12 polos for a new crew, a screen printer will quote you a setup fee that costs more than the shirts. That's not them ripping you off. It's just the wrong process for the job.

Here's what actually happened. Most cheap shirt printing sits ON TOP of the fabric instead of bonding into it. Heat press vinyl cracks the moment the shirt flexes. Under-cured plastisol never fully bonded in the first place. Add Florida heat, a full day of sweat, and a hot dryer, and you get three weeks out of something you paid for like it would last a year.

But the shirt isn't the real problem.
