Every rider on board.

See an amber light flashing on the platform?

Someone is waiting for help boarding.

A commuter railroad asked us to make sure riders who need assistance are seen by the conductor as the train pulls in. The answer was a simple signal: one button that flashes amber, visible from the cab.

Small details like this help every rider get where they're going.

The person who saves a life isn't always a doctor. Often it's a neighbor, a coworker, or a stranger who chooses to help.

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. If someone collapses, does not respond, and is not breathing or only gasping:

1. Call 911.
2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
3. Use an AED as soon as one arrives. Turn it on and let it guide you.

CPR started right away can double or triple the chance of survival, according to the American Heart Association. You don't need to be an expert. You just need to be willing.

That's what Safe Community Spaces are about: everyday people are equipped to help until professionals arrive. Code Blue Help Pointsยฎ can include temperature-controlled AED housing, in tower or wall-mount formats, so a call for help and an AED are in the same place.

Do you know where your nearest AED is?

That blue light at your stop is a direct line to help.

Press the button and you can talk with someone who already knows which stop you're at. On connected systems, your stop's security team gets an alert at the same moment, and nearby riders with CPR training can be asked to help.

Our lights are a beacon, connecting riders to help right where and when it's needed.

What does a security team gain when three facilities share one platform?

They know which device was pressed, at which gate, at which site. They see device status across the whole footprint. And they got there without a cabling project, because every device connects over cellular and reports to Code Blue Cloud.

Blue light phones are evolving.

The University of Michigan recently announced a multi-year effort to modernize its blue light infrastructure across its Ann Arbor campus. We are proud to have partnered with the university to design and manufacture the first new kiosk units across Central and North Campus.

The new Kiosks are designed to do more than provide emergency calling. They will also support non-emergency assistance, wayfinding, enhanced area lighting, public safety messaging, accessibility, and in some locations, outdoor Wi-Fi.

It is a strong example of how a highly visible point of assistance can become part of a broader campus safety communications ecosystem, giving people multiple ways to connect to help and information right where it's needed.

Beyond the button, these familiar campus beacons can play a much bigger role in creating connected and supportive Safe Community Spaces.

DPSS offers a truly integrated approach to public safety and security, partnering across the University and helping everyone in the U-M community.

The quote came after the drawing, and that is the reason the project held together.

Our solution design drawings defined every device before it was priced and showed the customer the whole system on one page. When the scope changed, the drawings changed with it, so the integrator always had a buildable answer.

Three facilities in three states, one connected emergency communication network, and not a foot of new cable.

When Schneider Electric brought us a project for Case New Holland, the scope called for recabling every site. We proposed cellular connections and Code Blue Cloud instead. The customer said yes.

At Grand Haven State Park, the beach can now change its own warning display.

In May 2024, SwimSmart Technology LLC, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Code Blue unveiled 12 electronic safety towers along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Eight on the beach show water conditions with a light display that mirrors the familiar flag system, broadcast messages about changing weather, and carry a life ring.

Four along the sidewalk connect directly to a 911 dispatcher, with loudspeaker broadcasting and video monitoring.

Deploy a life ring and 911, and park rangers are alerted at the same moment, with rangers directed to the location.

None of it required trenching the shoreline. Every tower generates its own power and connects over cellular.

There are two ways to own a piece of safety equipment.

One is the kind you have to keep checking. Somebody drives out, opens the enclosure, tests the batteries, and hopes the answer is the same as last time.

The other is the kind you stop thinking about.

The difference is usually a decision nobody outside engineering ever hears about.
The batteries in our solar towers are sealed gel.

They are low maintenance, they tolerate deep discharge and recovery, and they hold up against temperature extremes and vibration.

The electrolyte inside has a putty-like consistency, so it will not spill acid. And unlike lithium-ion, it does not combust on contact with water v***r, which matters when the equipment is standing on a beach, next to a pool deck, or out in Great Lakes weather.

Small engineering decisions like that one are why a tower installed today is still answering in year seven.

Three things worth checking before students walk back in.

Every emergency phone and call station on your property, confirmed working, on the systems they are supposed to be on.

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ผ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€. When someone presses the button at the far end of the athletic field, where does that call actually go, and is that still the right person? Staff turnover over the summer is the usual reason the answer changed.

๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ. If the primary path goes down, what is the backup, and has anyone tested it since last year?

None of this takes long.

All of it is easier to find out in August than in October.
